With profound sadness we announce the passing of Rev. Jesús Antonio Mejia Duque. Our heavenly Father called on Fr. Antonio to take up His cross and to join the priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church. Now, our Lord has called Rev. A ntonio back to his eternal home.
Fr. Antonio was born in Medellin, Colombia. Fr. Antonio, who was 35-years-old at his passing, is survived by his mother Rosa Elvira Mejia Cuartas and siblings who live in Medellin and Conneticut.
Fr. Antonio was ordained on April 9, 2005 at San Agustín Cathedral by Bishop James A. Tamayo. He, along with Rev. Iden Bello, became the first men ordained priests in the history of the Diocese of Laredo.
Fr. Antonio spent his final formative years at San Agustín Cathedral in Laredo and at St. Joseph Parish in La Pryor. After receiving the Sacrament of Holy Orders, Fr. Antonio was assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Carrizo Springs.
