Catholic Diocese Announces Plans for Major Cathedral Restoration & Renovation Project

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

For almost 150 years, the Cathedral of San Agustín has been a landmark and reference point for our citizens. The bell tower punctuates the skyline as if saying goodbye when going into Mexico and bidding a warm welcome upon your return. This Cathedral is not only part of the city’s crest, but also the spiritual seat of our Catholic faith in Laredo and historical jewel of our community at large.

In the spirit of renewal, of taking care of what is ours and looking towards the future, Most Reverend James A. Tamayo, First Bishop of Laredo, has announced the planned restoration and renovation of our San Agustín Cathedral.

This major Capital Campaign, the first of its kind, is aptly themed San Agustín Cathedral: Our Story, Our Faith, Our Cathedral. The Capital Campaign, with a four-year goal of $11 million, formally began on August 9th, 2017 and is set to run through May of 2018. During this time, all Catholics and people of good faith will be given the opportunity to learn about this great project and the opportunity to take part in this historic event!

_________
