The Diocese of Laredo, through the Catholic Schools Office, supports the academic excellence and quality information in faith, morals and personal development of every student in our six elementary/middle school campuses and one high school. The Diocese of Laredo desires that each of its Catholic Schools remains vibrant and fiscally solvent.
In recent times, St. Peter Memorial School (SPMS) and Our Lady of Guadalupe School (OLOG) have suffered major setbacks in the areas of student enrollment and financial indebtedness. For this reason, during this school year (2018-2019), officials and representatives from both schools including school boards, administrators, the Superintendant of Catholic Schools, and the Diocese of Laredo fiscal office conducted numerous meetings in an attempt to pro-actively find a solution to their financial shortfall. Each school community was informed that an increase in student enrollment, along with recruiting of parent, alumni, and community support, was crucial in gaining the financial assistance necessary so that each school would become financially solvent.
Bishop Tamayo, having received from the Catholic Schools Office all documents and information relevant in this matter, has determined it is in the best interest of the students and their families that a merger between St. Peter Memorial School and Our Lady of Guadalupe School take place. With this merger, a new name will be proposed for the new school, which will be located at 400 Callaghan St., Laredo, Texas.
Bishop Tamayo has delegated Dr. Guadalupe Perez, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, to oversee and facilitate this process. Dr. Perez will be working with the administrators and school committees of both SPMS and OLOG throughout the journey toward opening the new Catholic School in the Diocese of Laredo.
All students from both SPMS and OLOG are encouraged to enroll in the 2019-2020 school year at the new merger school. More information regarding registration will be provided by Dr. Guadalupe Perez in the near future.
