Oblates to depart from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Laredo

Tuesday, July 3, 2018

The U.S. Provincial for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate has decided that the Order, due to a lack of personnel, will be leaving Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Laredo, effective July 8, 2018. On that date, the parish will come under the pastoral care of the Diocese of Laredo. The Oblates will continue to serve Our Lady of Refuge in Eagle Pass and Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Pass. Parishoners of OLOG Church Laredo and members of the Diocese of Laredo extend resounding thanksgiving to each of the priests and religious who served our community for over 96 years.

The Oblates were asked to serve at what was then known as the San Agustin Church and its filial chapels Our Lady of Guadalupe and Holy Redeemer in Laredo by Bishop Ledvina on September 1, 1922. Our Lady of Guadalupe became a parish in 1926 with Fr. David Rodriguez and Fr. Ladislao Lopez assigned to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

On Sunday July 8, 2018, Bishop Tamayo will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (1718 San Jorge St. Laredo, TX) at 11:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the parish hall. Those wishing to reserve a ticket for the the Mass and reception are asked to call 956-723-6954. Note: RSVP deadline was June 22, 2018
