Pastoral Statement from Bishop James A. Tamayo

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

On behalf of the Diocese of Laredo, I extend un abrazo fuerte to all our brothers and sisters in Christ who are being affected by Hurricane Harvey. This hits especially close to me because I grew up in Corpus Christi and went to college and attended seminary in Houston. My heartfelt prayers are with each of you during this time of struggle and suffering.

Within Laredo, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Laredo are responding by feeding and distributing supplies to evacuees who have found shelter in our city. As a community, we must put unity into action to ensure that no one is in need. Please respond to Catholic Charities’ call for donations to create care packages for our brothers and sisters. I extend a special blessing to all professionals who continue to provide shelter, care, and resources.

Our Diocese is working in communication with the Texas Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities USA to aid those in our area. My brothers and sisters, unite your prayers with mine for those who have suffered great loss, whose lives have been lost, and for those who will encounter the storm throughout the remainder of this week. Let us not fall into despair but have hope, and always find consolation in the eternal love of our Father.  May the peace and love of Christ be with us all.
